Canal Cottage is located in a quiet, rural hamlet just off the D125 between Gueltas and Rohan, it is within walking distance (40mins) along the towpath to the nearest village Rohan where most things required for your holiday can be purchased. In the village are 3 good restaurants, 2 Boulangeries, Pharmacy, Tabac, local bars etc. Markets are held weekly in Rohan, Pontivy and Loudéac and the owners’ bicycles are available for use on request.

All accommodation on offer is situated on the first floor with its own private entrance, the owners live on the ground floor, both units being separated by a thermal and acoustic insulated new suspended floor and is indicated on the photos as the stone building. The cream rendered building attached is owned by and used for storage by the owners and is therefore not habitable. The property is in a quiet and peaceful location but not isolated and is within easy reach to local amenities. Ample parking is available off-road to the side of the cottage for cars with private access to the first floor and ample secure parking to the rear for motorcycles. There are no facilities at the apartment for charging electric cars, electricity is for domestic use only. The nearest charging station is 3.5k away in Rohan.

It is a great ‘central’ base from which to explore Brittany. The first-floor accommodation was created during 2014/16 to a high standard with other extensive renovations to the whole cottage and grounds. Whilst suitable for children we suggest the accommodation is not suited for infants under approx. 5 years due to the open tread staircase and non-availability of stairgate, cot and highchair.

Whilst the owners are living on the ground floor, they will be available for as much or as little that you want.

Accommodation will comprise of Lounge/Diner/and kitchenette, 2 double bedrooms, 2 single bedrooms, shower room (including WC and basin), separate WC and basin with the apartment having its own private entrance. Access will be available to the full external area amounting to just under 3000m2 and includes a large patio and Veranda, grassed area, garden, an additional shower, WC and basin in the garage and use of the hot tub with prior notice to the owners!!

The garden backs onto the Brest to Nantes canal with access to the picturesque tow path via the nearby Lock Gates. The canal tow path is the perfect place for a peaceful leisurely stroll.

The nearest village of Rohan (3.5k) is easily reached with the available bicycles, car or walking the towpath (approx. 40mins). Larger towns of Pontivy or Loudéac can be reached by the car in 12-15 mins.

We are offering the accommodation for rental based on –

  • Just a normal, peaceful relaxing holiday in the countryside with a car, motorcycle or bicycle.

  • If you are into biking (with a motor!) and want to explore some good roads we can assist with as little or as much as you want our help – see separate page above
  • Or if you have not been to France (Brittany) before and want someone to chaperone/assist we can be involved again as little or as much as you want.

Simply, we are extending our home for you to share and enjoy a relaxing holiday, we can advise on local restaurants and places to visit.

We ask that guests arrive after 16.00 and depart before 10.00am to allow period of time for change-over, particularly in these difficult times with Covid. These times are flexible should no new guests have booked to arrive the same day, please discuss with the owners should a little extra time be useful.
